What’s new for the 2014 school year

Welcome back to school, friends and FutureBook family!

It’s already been an interesting and contrasted start already this year: Our Texas schools started back as early as August, while schools in British Columbia are only starting next week, after a strike process which began last June! We are happy the job action has reached a resolution and look forward to working with these schools soon.

We’ve also welcomed new states into our family: Florida and Virginia.

Some highlights of the past year have been:

1. The introduction of our newest video yearbook  Van High in Van, Texas, especially, had a phenomenal video yearbook, even writing and performing the soundtrack music themselves!

2. We created our first hook-embedded yearbook!  Kitsilano High School outdid themselves again, designing a calendar-format yearbook with a question-mark custom-made hook that can be removed and screwed into a wall to hang the yearbook. And their brainy graphics are also worth checking out!

3. We created our first wrap-around yearbook cover, with a puzzle closure! The scratchless matte lamination is so smooth and soft to pet that it would make a kitten jealous.

4. Thanks to the support of our schools, we planted over 42,000 trees, with Trees for the Future.  We’re already making environmentally friendly yearbooks with vegetable dyes and FSC-certified paper, but this helps us all to feel better about our impact on the planet.

5. Throughout the year we hosted numerous one-day workshops with our schools in areas such as Florida, Oregon, and Texas, and provided an overnight three-day session in BC. Learning was plentiful and fun was had!

6. If you have been following the above links, you know that we have a new Instagram page where we are posting some yearbook inspiration from our books and pages, as well as some art and cool things we spy and appreciate at some of our schools. We have some fun contests coming up!

7. Need even more inspiration? Our Pinterest page is chock full of great design, typography, cover, and page inspiration.

This will be an exciting year with some amazing innovations to come. We don’t want to spoil the surprises just yet but let’s just say they will be enLIGHTening and POWERful!

Stay tuned!
